Description

...because I will make a skewer out of you with these!"

EDIT: Added some effect to the ice pillars, to (try to) make them appear more dynamic

Soooo... That's my entry for RedWulfi's contest.
And that's her character Cryo.
And she's not happy.
At all.

The initial idea was totally different (I was about to make her in Reverence form), but then I decided to scrap it to develop another idea ;D
So I decided to study more Cryo's reference... then I focused on one of her abilities, Ice pillars:

Ice Pillar(Icicle spikes emerge from the ground, these spikes made of pure ice can block off enemies or penetrate them.) While using any of these powers, Cryo's markings glow. But she is vulnerable. When locked onto one foe she let's her guard down to others.

Thinking that, when using this power, Cryo is vulnerable, with her guard down... I thought she couldn't just let the spike rise from the ground just thinkin that...and even less the spikes could raise from nothing, under the ground... So I worked on this detail for a while, until I thought the best solution for this issue was to let her generate those spikes exploiting her ability to generate ice... Cryo simply puts an hand on the ground (this way she's forced to stay with her guard down) and generates a strip of ice from which she instantly shapes ice spikes (who rise direcly from the spikes)... Meanwhile, on her other right hand, she yet shaped her Ice blade (not upgraded... yet)

About the ambientation... I tried to make a totally snowy ambientation, but... too much white. And it would have made the picture look too empty, in my opinion, so I went for something that looked a bit like a tundra...and naturally a cloudy (or well.. almost rainy) weather, to give the feeling of a coooold place ;D

Well, that's all folks!

some not so strong point from me but I try to write a critique
please see this as help
if I hurt you by saying something remember it's just an opinion
I try to help where I can
I don't mean it to be rude
Neither I want to insult
(auto message which I place at all critique)

Vision

Somehow I feel like something is missing when I look at this piece. I know this is the best way to make the character come out but the background so empty seems it to look a little apart from the pic. I know that if there be more details and things adding in the background would have took attention from the character away but yeah. , I don't know sure.
Further the perspectie is truly impresive in here , the crystals are bigger and more blurrier in front because that still gives the right to the character to come out and get all attention instead of the crystal spike which has been very well chosen for it.

as well the details and anatonomy look amazing. The shading mathces with the other shading in the pic and doesnt look off from the background , so does the lighting effects. they are all well placed where they should be and still make it all look clearly to us. THe pose and expression match and do have a good function and help the personality of the character too.

the character as well suit perfect with the background which is a good thing

Originality
<img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="17" height="16" alt=":star:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="450" title="Star!"/>x4,5

The entry for the contest is something different than any other pic I saw of her. Most pics show her beauty and not her power , but this one does. As well the choice of adding thunder , this kind of background and the power so close makes it a magnificent picture and one of a kind too. The scenery is not done before so far as I know.

The only thing which stopped you from getting 5 stars from it is cause it's not your character and it's a sonicfancharacter
I hope you know what I mean with that

Technique:
<img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="17" height="16" alt=":star:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="450" title="Star!"/> x5
the clean coloring , thing lineart , smooth shading and the blurring on some places makes it wonderfull. As well I checked if the perspective is going fully right with some red lines and it did indeed went out perfect to the horizon.
Further the anatonomy is greatly done on this character and dynamicness of it too

Impact:
<img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="17" height="16" alt=":star:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="450" title="Star!"/>x 4

Simply cause I have not a sure idea of what they mean with impact.
if they meant the attack of cryo then indeed it should get 5 stars cause it seemed that it hitted the target perfectly.

or they mean the emotion in the pic , which is greatly done tough.
